What can I update my wireless to without 'hack'
What can I update my wireless to without 'hack'
I have a T30 with what I am guessing is a malfunctioning Wireless card model M3AWEB56GA (using High Rate Wireless LAN Mini PCI combo card driver). Sometimes it finds my router and sometimes it doesn't. Anyway, would you guys know what kind of Intel card I could get that wouldn't result in a 1802 error? Would like a b/g/n card if there is such a thing. Normally I wouldn't worry about a little hack but I am getting this laptop ready to give away to family and I hear you have to reapply the hack if you upgrade a hard drive or the like. Would like to keep it internal MiniPCI if I could. Thanks in advance for any help!

You're out of luck.
Once in a blue, there's an Intel 2200BG that works without a hack, although I have yet to see one, but it has been reported on this forum.
The only mini-PCI a/b/g/n card that I'm aware of will call for a hack and then some, since you'll have both "01C9" and "1802" errors.
No need to re-apply the hack if you swap the hard drive though, just if you update the BIOS.

Ok, that was what I was afraid of.
So, are there multiple MiniPCI card options for any one thinkpad(that IBM intended)? Or do they want you to buy a new machine rather than a wireless card?
Thanks for the correction on the 1802 hack/BIOS. I have the most current BIOS on my T30, what are the chances they would offer another update?

There will never be another T30 BIOS update.
You can burn a CD with the No-1802 hack ar make a floppy disk, if you have such a drive.
Takes only a few seconds to apply.
You can put ANY MiniPCI wifi card in there (not MiniPCIe).
This Broadcom card will work in your T30: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Integrated-W ... 0602489984
Get the driver from Dell (model 1300), that works in a T30 under XP..

Re: What can I update my wireless to without 'hack'
On the Intel cards of the 30 or 40 that I have laid my hands on, on 1 NON-IBM/Intel card would work without the hack. That said, honestly, just about every IBM I own has had the hack done, if it would take. My personal machine's I prefer Atheros based cards. Those machines that I donate always have the Intel. Intel is cheap, easy to find, easy to configure....and they do a decent job.
