T-30 Not Working - Does Beep When RAM Is Removed
T-30 Not Working - Does Beep When RAM Is Removed
My T-30 had been working fine, but when I turned it on yesterday, it wouldn't even boot in to the BIOS.
When I hit the power button, all the green lights at the top of the keyboard flash, the one closest to the power button remains lit, the fan runs, but nothing else happens. IF I hold down the power button it powers off as it should.
I removed the RAM and then tried booting and got the 1-3-3-1 beep sequence. I'm not sure if that indicates if the laptop is dead or alive. What else should I try, or is this an indication that the laptop is dead?
Is the laptop dead, or is there further testing I need to do?
Thanks in advance for any ideas on this.

Try this old trick:
Remove the battery, hard and media drives. Unplug the AC adapter.
Press the "power" button ten times in a row, holding it down for ten seconds each time and thirty seconds the last time around.
Plug the adapter - but nothing else - back in and try to power on.
Good luck.

You got an external monitor? Try using it. Your internal screen might be dead.

A sensible suggestion indeed.cadillacmike68 wrote:You got an external monitor? Try using it. Your internal screen might be dead.
Also, try removing RAM and booting with one stick at the time, alternating the slots. Don't be afraid to apply modest pressure on the DIMM as well, if initial testing doesn't yield results.
Good luck.

That 'old' power button trick is getting a bit long in the tooth.
It's a proven fact that just holding it down once for ca. 15 seconds is more than enough for emptying the capacitors.
This is also known as a hard or forced reset.
You can find the very same info on e.g. the official HP website: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docu ... ct=1132551
