T2? bios update

#1 Post by DRobinson » Wed Dec 05, 2012 10:45 pm

So, I have a T20 with an older bios. But, I may not have a T20. The motherboard that came with it got a bad flash, so was replaced. Second MB got BOD. I am on my 3rd motherboard for this machine. The bios listed appears to be a T22 bios.

Code: Select all

*-firmware
          description: BIOS
          vendor: IBM
          physical id: 0
          version: 16ET29WW (1.09 )
          date: 02/28/2002
          size: 144KiB
          capacity: 448KiB
Since I purchased this motherboard from e-bay, it could well be out of a T22. Is there any difference between T20 and T22 motherboards? I do not think so, but there are different bios listings on Lenovo's page for them? Should I upgrade this with the T22 version? I will probably use a dos floppy to run the flash program.

Thank you.

According to the T2x Hardware Maintenance Manual, there are different motherboards for T20, T21 and T22 systems, with two different FRUs for each (i.e., 6 total). If your "new" board has a 16ETnnWW BIOS version, then you are correct in saying it's a T22.
