New wireless card T30

#1 Post by myt30 » Sun Dec 23, 2012 9:09 am

Hey guys,
I have a T30 running XP pro that is have wireless issues. It will work and connect sometimes but when it doesn't and I try to repair the connection it locks up and I have to hard restart. I was thinking of trying a new wireless card (Currently have a Intel High Rate with Modem) 'cause I would really like to have wireless n if i could or dual band would be better :D .

I found a few on ebay:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Broadcom-BCM4322 ... 2362wt_911
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/AR5008-Atheros-A ... 2498wt_911

I realize that i will probably have to do the BIOS hack because these are non intel cards, but from what I've read it is not that hard. Has anyone tried any of these cards or is there a better on that works? Thanks for any time and input.

Welcome to the forum!

I use the second card in my T43p and absolutely love it.

Broadcom might be a better card if you never run Linux.

So your saying that both should work but the second one won't if I ever run any kind of Linux?

Edit: Also just saw that the Atheros card has 3 antenna plugs and the Broadcomm has 2. Did your laptop have 3 wires then?

You only need the 3rd wire for MIMO.
Wifi-N reception will be fine with the 2 wires your T30 currently has.

Or if your just dying to add the 3rd antenna, add the factory blue tooth antenna or add an apple wireless antenna.

Both will work.

No. The Atheros card is good. Broadcom is good with windows. They just have poor/no support for linux. I have had great luck with Atheros on linux boxes.

Atheros appears to be "native" to linux. Im using a couple of flavors of uBuntu, the ONLY thing I do different on the nux boxes is run Atheros cards.
