T20 - "Shut Off" instantly after a little time

#1 Post by JamerX » Sat Mar 09, 2013 6:16 pm

Hi people.

I'm a long time "watch-user" of this forum, but just today I've found a reason to post.

I Have a Thinkpad T20 (2647-41g), Pentium III 700, 256 MB RAM, HDD 160GB, 3Com combo, Win2000 SP4, and etc.

The problem started in the past year. The fact is that, I turn it on, it boots Windows, show me the desktop and, after some minutes (any time, can be 5 or 20 minutes), the screen goes black, the sound is muted, and I can't recover back my work.

Explaining more: The screen turns in all black, but I can see it "trying" to come back, like a "blinking black". I also can hear a "TIC.... TIC..." in the motherboard, indicating that is something happening with the circuits (or is just the energy).

If I try to run with just the battery, the situation is worst: It turn black the screen and intermittently turns on... :( Like this: "OFF...... ON..................................OFF..ON...OFF" with 2~4 seconds of interval.

What I tried:

- Run just in Energy (no battery);
- Run in "light mode"(no Battery, no Ultrabay drive, nothing "useless";
- Reset the BIOS, "clean up the energy";

I really don't know what is happening with my Old-good laptop.
Sorry if this isn't the right place to find help, or if this has been fixed before. I'm just mad with this problem.
IBM Thinkpad:

T20: PIII 700 MHz, 256 MB RAM (2x 128), 160 GB PATA HDD, Atheros ar5001x PCMCIA Wireless Adapter, Windows 2000 Pro SP4 PT-BR

X41: Pentium M 1.6 GHz, 1,5 GB RAM, 20 GB HDD, Windows XP Pro SP3 PT-BR

Sounds like a problem with the power, you might have to replace the charger, the charger port, the battery, or the battery slot's connectors.

Did you check if the fan is spinning? Is getting hot in the upper left corner?
