T30 turns off after IBM logo
I just got a "dead" T30 (the seller advertised it as it would react to nothing, no life at all).
I bought it because of the 512 MB DDR RAM inside and a DVD drive.
However, when I got home and tried it with my X31's power supply, it turned on, gave display.
It reacts to keypresses (to Enter setup, to change boot sequence), BUT...after leaving boot logo, the screen flashes for a moment (for example, I can see the Setup screen for a second, when I try to Enter setup and it had finished preparing) and then power is out.
It's got a dead battery and I tried it with and without the battery as well.
What could this be ? Does it worth bothering with ?
(I got the whole machine for a price of one used 512 MB DDR RAM module)
Best regards,
Gabriel

Remove everything you can...included would be CD drive, the wireless card, the modem and 1 stick of RAM. Let us know what it does.

I've removed everything you mentioned and tried it, but it still does the same.
No matter, if I run it on battery or on AC without battery.
(the battery is not apparently not dead, I just thought it was...it holds a charge)
Can this be a capacitor problem in the motherboard ?
Or what else ?
Thank you again, best regards

Under the battery should be the CMOS battery, remove it and leave it out for at least 1 hour, or repeatedly press and hold the power button.
You do not want any power left on the machine. No mains power, no battery power. Make sure you have removed everything you can prior to this. Then replace the battery, Plug it back in, replace the big battery, it should come up and run with an error, that's normal. Let us know.

Re: T30 turns off after IBM logo
Thank you, I tried, but I just cannot remove the CMOS battery.
It is under the main battery and held there with a single screw.
When I remove that screw, the assembly holding the CMOS battery doesn't seem to
get out. (I haven't tried taking the entire machine apart for this.)
