Help about burnt chip in T23 system board

#1 Post by Enzo1960 » Sat Apr 02, 2016 4:36 am

Hello at the Forum!
I need help: in my ThinkPad T23, model 2647-2TG, burnt this chip, near battery connector, as following image:
http://www.4shared.com/photo/VwyF0QNpba ... 01425.html
Image
Last 2 numbers on burnt chip seems "90A", so I soldered a "FDS 8690AS" desoldered from other (non T23) board.
But, before to mount and connect the battery, I would be sure that this is the right chip.
Can anyone help me?
Thank you in advance, Enzo.

Welcome to the Forum.
According to the T23 circuit diagram that should be a Toshiba TPC8203, http://www.datasheetcatalog.com/datashe ... 8203.shtml

Don't know if that Fairchild FDS8690AS is fully compatible, https://www.fairchildsemi.com/pf/FD/FDS8690.html
You do the math.

Thank you VERY much!
However, for sure burnt chip was Fairchild, because Fairchild logo appear still in remaining part of chip.
I let you know how repair works!
P.S.: You're right!
Just checked (on Aliexpress) for Toshiba chip, and I discovered that now it is marked as FDS6690AS.
So, in my opinion, better thing is to insert this Toshiba chip.
I will order it now.

Last news: I replaced it with an FDS6680A.
It don't burned again, but T23 don't boot. I think this is like a short circuit on board, because when I connect power supply, it sounds like a pulse.
So I suspect that some other component(s) are failed.
Can someone please post a schematic that can help me to diagnose failure?
Thank you.
