Would an LCD panel from an old T40 work on my ThinkPad T20?

#1 Post by karl80038 » Fri May 19, 2017 10:28 am

Is it possible to replace a worn LCD panel on my T20 with a working one from the T40? If that's possible, do I have to replace anything else besides the panel on my T20?
Anyways, thanks for reading,
Karl

All 14.1" T/A2x/3x use 20pin ccfl connector
all 14.1" T4x/6x use 30pin ccfl connector
You should be fine for getting a 14.1" display from T/A2x/3x which is better off for you to find on this forum or those Chinese sources such as Taobao, or pick one from theft store
Dell Lat CP MMX-233 64mb 40gb W2k

Im assuming you mean thrift store :).
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Is it possible to use panel from R40 in T22? If yes, can XGA panel be used with SXGA+ cables and inverter?

No.

No. You need the cable that matches the screen resolution on old (pre-T60) ThinkPads, even if you were to source a proper T2x panel.

Just for your reference, If you try to swap panels between resolutions and generations, assume it doesnt work, cuz it likely wont. Even my new HD+ panel wont work in my HD T420.
