I stand corrected. The previous T2x models did not have the CDC, at least my work-issued T20 didn't.

T20-T22 did not have a CDC slot so it is an Ethernet combo card with modem. And no for those models plugging a wireless card doesn't work properly at least from my experience.
T23 has a CDC slot with Ethernet card in that slot. So plugging in a wifi card only removes the modem functionality (the original wifi card intended for T23 and A3x machines have both a wifi and modem bundles into one combo card anyways)
