Pentium 4-M stuck at 1.2 GHz
Pentium 4-M stuck at 1.2 GHz
So I thought I had upgraded my CPU to a 2.5 GHz pentium 4-m, but according to NHC, it’s running at 1.2GHz. I am using the 72W adapter from the T43P, my main battery is totally dead. Any advice?

Re: Pentium 4-M stuck at 1.2 GHz
To be clear, what system are we talking about here? T2x cannot implement P4 so I'm assuming that you are doing this on a T30. If so, then it's likely that the missing (dead) battery is preventing the system from running at full speed. Try installing a known good battery and re-measure the system speed.

Also triple-check the BIOS power settings that everything related with speed are set to maximum performance.

Re: Pentium 4-M stuck at 1.2 GHz
Its likely a Pentium M. Even I confuse them sometimes with P4's sometimes.rkawakami wrote: ↑Thu Nov 16, 2017 2:14 amTo be clear, what system are we talking about here? It has SpeedStep so try and run a benchmark like AIDA to check it. It likely is just conserving power.

Re: Pentium 4-M stuck at 1.2 GHz
Sorry for not specifiying, it is indeed a T30 Pentium 4-M 2.5 GHz. I will have to track down a working battery that won’t cost me what I paid for the computer

Re: Pentium 4-M stuck at 1.2 GHz
Also, try the latest BIOS. From what I can see, by the time T30 releases, the 2.5Ghz model of P4-M doesn't exist yet, so the out-of-the-box BIOS may not identify it properly.
I did have this problem with my A30 board and 1.2Ghz PIII-M CPU.

Re: Pentium 4-M stuck at 1.2 GHz
Sooner the better, and remove the dead battery altogether now since running with one for an extended period of time may blow your charging circuit.
