Pentium 4-M stuck at 1.2 GHz

#1 Post by Raidriar » Wed Nov 15, 2017 9:35 pm

So I thought I had upgraded my CPU to a 2.5 GHz pentium 4-m, but according to NHC, it’s running at 1.2GHz. I am using the 72W adapter from the T43P, my main battery is totally dead. Any advice?

To be clear, what system are we talking about here? T2x cannot implement P4 so I'm assuming that you are doing this on a T30. If so, then it's likely that the missing (dead) battery is preventing the system from running at full speed. Try installing a known good battery and re-measure the system speed.

Also triple-check the BIOS power settings that everything related with speed are set to maximum performance.

Its likely a Pentium M. Even I confuse them sometimes with P4's sometimes.

It has SpeedStep so try and run a benchmark like AIDA to check it. It likely is just conserving power.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Sorry for not specifiying, it is indeed a T30 Pentium 4-M 2.5 GHz. I will have to track down a working battery that won’t cost me what I paid for the computer

BIOS settings are set to max performance plugged in and max battery when on battery

Also, try the latest BIOS. From what I can see, by the time T30 releases, the 2.5Ghz model of P4-M doesn't exist yet, so the out-of-the-box BIOS may not identify it properly.
I did have this problem with my A30 board and 1.2Ghz PIII-M CPU.

Sooner the better, and remove the dead battery altogether now since running with one for an extended period of time may blow your charging circuit.
