T23 DVD-drive assembly pictures ? Won't close.

#1 Post by 123434 » Fri Dec 22, 2017 2:37 am

Hello
T23's DVD-drive tray won't close or hold up as closed.
You must place a tape to hold it in the closed position.
- Is there any assembly pictures ? So I can clearly see what is the piece that holds the tray in closed position.
- Is it a easy fix or is it easier to just buy a another CD-drive ?

Is it a normal type/design problem for these kind of CD-DVD-drives ?

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

I believe that there is a plastic latch inside the drive that keeps the tray closed, although it's been some time since I opened one up. My take is that it is easier to replace the entire unit. You could upgrade to a CD-RW/DVD drive (writes CD-R or CD-RW, in addition to reading both CD and DVD disks) or even to a DVD writer. It does not necessarily have to be an original IBM drive as it is possible to swap the plastic pieces which enable the drive to connect to the IDE interface and allow it to fit inside the Ultrabay.
