T23 Fan Error

#1 Post by Raidriar » Mon Jan 22, 2018 4:06 pm

I bought a second hand T23 a couple months ago, and occasionally upon boot, it would spit out "fan error". I couple restarts used to be able to fix the problem, but now it's constantly stuck on fan error. Would replacing the fan solve the problem, or is something more sinister going on? Can I use A T22 fan, because I can't seem to find a T23 fan anywhere.

The heatsink halves can be split via screws to clean dust and take the fan rotor off and use little engine oil on the sleeve bearing. Remember to purchase some heatsink compound.

How I know? I have a T23 as well.

T23 needs a T23 fan, nothing less.
Look on my website for a lot of T2x parts, incl. 3x T23 fan: http://theboardroom.info/parts1.html

T22 fan and T23 fan have completely different mounting designs. Why? Because even the shape of the CPU die and CPU socket, as well as TDP are much different for Coppermine vs. Tualatin on mobile.
I've cleaned both of them before so I've seen that difference with my own eyes.
Look at the HMM as well.

I'm probably gonna try that on my spare T23 fan that is loud and have rattling noise.

Good information here. I disassembled the fan, used 91% isopropyl alcohol to clean old dried lube off the fan stator, lubed with synthetic 5w30 oil, and spins right up now. Fan error is solved, and less junk to be thrown into a landfill.

Excellent job!

Only small complaint is quality of fonts in DOS and when video chip driver not in use. I wish this model used ATI 7500 chip instead then I'd be really loving the thinnest notebook.
