ThinkPad T30 possible power button issue

#1 Post by 2000sfanman » Sat Mar 10, 2018 3:59 pm

Hi, I just received an old T30 today from eBay, and when i plug it in to power the battery light turns solid orange and i tried all of these to get it to power on:

*Push power button like mad
*Push power button 10 times for 10 sec and hold for 30 then plug in
*Quick tap the power button
*Re seat keyboard cable
*Swap memory around and try with only one module
*Push Power button some more

And all it does it show a orange battery light nothing else and that's all it does. This is my fist ThinkPad i ever used really I came from a Dell user and i wanted better so i decided to start here.

I need the know is this a keyboard power button issue or a mother board issue. PLEASE HELP!!!

I had my hands on many A31p motherboards and almost all of them can power on only with at least one of your procedures.
I think what you can try is to hook your keyboard up to any of the A/T/R 2x/3x/4x/5x computers, since the physical keyboard connector for all of those computer is the same (trust me, I've used T4x keyboard on A31p before when I ran out of keyboards, except it doesn't fit into the chassis obviously).

Yeah i could try that but unfortunately i don't own anymore IBM/Lenovo computers nor know anyone who owns one. But i did get some progress since yesterday i left it plugged in and the battery light turned green which doesn't correspond with the manual. But if i unplug it and immediately hit the power button it sorta turns on while on battery power only one led lights up no power leds, nor a beep, nor a sound not even the hard drive turns on just a semi lit screen with lines and weirdly it changes the lines change and the tint goes slowly in and out. So I'm 100% for sure its the motherboard. So i just went ahead and purchased yet another T30 from eBay and this time this one actually runs. Thanks for your help though :)
