Original IBM batteries seem no longer to be around, so that leaves Ebay as the most obvious source. There seem to be four main options, none of which I'm very confident about. These are:
GREEN CELL (£24): I've used this brand in a couple of other laptops, and they do give a respectable amount of usage (around 2.5 hours in a Dell Latitude E6420, and 1 hour 40 mins in an R51). They tend to run down very quickly towards the end though, and the one in the R51 just cuts out without warning with 10%-15% of charge still showing.
VHBW (£21): German company. Cheapest of the lot. Quite a few complaints in the feedback about items not delivered, being of unacceptable quality or poor customer service.
SUBTEL (£30): Again, from Germany. Most expensive item. Similar sorts of complaints as for the previous item.
POWEROSE (£23): Hong Kong retailer. My previous experience of buying from HK on Ebay was very poor, and I'm not inclined to do so again.
Postage is 'free' on all of the above (ie it's incorporated into the selling price).
There's also a battery from an Italian firm, Maledetta (which I think means 'cursed'), which comes to £32 including delivery - forget it.
I really have a psychological aversion to paying more for a battery than I paid for the laptop (£11), but if anyone could assure me from personal experience that one of the above batteries is a really good quality, reliable item, then I'd consider it. I have a cynical feeling though that they might all be identical under the skin, and originate from the same Chinese factory.
I've occasionally seen previously owned genuine IBM batteries at around £10, and would have considered such an item, except that they have all come with £10+ postage charges.
