T30 - Upgrading XGA -> SXGA+

#1 Post by H-Atkinson » Wed May 19, 2021 10:37 pm

Can anyone confirm that a new cable (27L0707) is the only part beyond the panel needed to complete this upgrade? I've had an SXGA+ panel sitting around from an old T60 for a while, and figured I may as well throw it in my T30 since I've got it, and the CCFL in my XGA panel is finally giving up.

Thanks!

I doubt that will work.
Just compare the pinouts ...

Why not? I was under the impression that the 14.1" SXGA+ screens were all the same from the T2x to T6x generations.

Correction 23/05/21:
T2x and T30 use 20-pin LCDs
T30/T4x/T6x all use 30-pin LCDs, but with different pinouts!
Only LCDs used in T4x/T6x are pin-compatible.
Additionally, T6x also have an EDID, which is missing on most T4x LCDs.

I believe the SXGA+ versions of T2x should also use a 30pin pinout as I remember the 20pin is simply not enough channels for SXGA+ resolution. But as for whether they are pin compatible with T30 its a good question.

Nope, I just found that I need to correct my first info.
Even the LTN141PE-L01 (11P8273) and LP141E04-B1 (11P8295), both SXGA+ for T30, still have 20-pin.

Okay yeah apparently this is because all T30 models use some pretty propietrary screens
This guy bought some adapters that allowed standard screens to work with T30 and talked about how the 20pin is not the same as the generic 20pin used on T2x (That is, I have swaped screens between T2x and Dells and had zero issues with it): viewtopic.php?t=94254
And this also goes to show that the 30pin T2x screens are also completely different than the T30 screens but those T2x SXGA+ screens should be pin compatible with T4x and T6x
So I guess to answer OP's question, I believe screen + cable is all he needs, but he must purchase a T30 SXGA+ screen, and not from a T4x, T2x or even A3x!

Well, this may prove more trouble than its worth. Might just buy a dead T30 with the screen/cable I want, these parts aren't cheap.

I have a NOS T30 SXGA screen packed away somewhere, but it's in a room full of unmarked Thinkpad parts boxes that I haven't even begun to unpack since I moved a few months ago...

PM if you get stuck finding a screen and I'll see if I can dig it out.

Regards.
