If I find a used pcmcia soundblaster I'll pick it up and post about any performance increase.

Someone here must know someone who is good with 3dAnalyze, come on guys I really want to get Halo working.

This is our graphics card: S3 SuperSavage/IXC

This is an MS Knowledgebase article for Halo requirements and if you look under the list of Unsupported video cards, I hate to say it, but ours is listed as unsupported.

it is officially unsupported, but the only thing that stops it from running is a check that it executes when it starts up. if someone knew how to bypass this the game would work fine with certain settings disabled.

it is possible to start it in safe mode then change all the settings manually each time, but it is annoying

it is officially unsupported because the card doesn't have hardware TnL capabilities, there is an option in 3DAnalyze that allows you to emulate TnL, although it decreases performance it allows the game to work with the card, where I am stuck is that the game catches the card's id somewhere and doesn't allow you to play simply because the card isn't officially supported

Sure, I understand what you are saying. It's also possible to get Doom3 to play on a Voodoo5 if you really tweak things. Is it worth it? Probably not. FWIW, from a gamers perspective, the only setting produced a major performance hit in Halo with a decent video card (ie: 9800 Pro and up - 128MB+) was specular. Having used to play Halo online with some friends quite a bit in the past, I can say that I wouldn't want to disable any more settings than that. And I wouldn't want to run at a resolution any lower than 1024x768. I don't think this S3 gpu would make it worth playing.

Yeah, I want to give it a shot though. I'm confident I can make it playable, it is my hobby to see how far I can push my T23. Its annoying that the bungie people went so far out of their way to deny me the chance.

No, it's too bad that the bungie people did such a poor job of porting Halo from the Xbox to the PC. There are a lot of things that could have been done better with Halo, particularly in the area of 3D graphics.

Yesterday I tried to run Black & White on my T23. It work quite well, but sometimes can be slow a lot. I realised, it doesn't depend on number of details, that are on a screen. Usually, you must change the angle of view or wait a few sec. to make everything going right [on 1024x786 with max details!].
You guys were able to run half-life and cs on a t23? It wouldn't work for me. Do you need to do some configuartion? I loads and everything, but the frames per second is like 4-8 only. What video settings did you use?
Well, I haven't used a T23, but I have a T20, which I assume is lower down the technology chain, and Half-Life runs fine, using either Open GL or DirectX at 640x480 resolution. It looks better in OpenGL mode (it's based on the Quake 2 engine which was designed for OpenGL, rather than DirectX), and when you try the game, experiment with both listed drivers (under the OpenGL > Driver option in Half-Life) to see which one looks/performs the best for you. I always use 640x480 in games for speed reasons, especially since as a console gamer, I'm used to these resolutions anyway, owing to the limitations of the current Television standards.

My laptop has Win98SE, I take it you have WinXP? That shouldn't be a problem, provided install the latest Half-Life patch. Aside from that, the only thing I can suggest if you still can't get Half-Life running is that you go to Planet Half-Life at:

http://www.planethalflife.com/

and see if they have any articles on running the game on XP, or failing that, post on their forums.

I have no experience with Counterstrike (my laptop is not online), so I can't help there, sorry, but again, try Planet Half-Life.

Hope that helps.

Regarding my last post (immediately above this), I should have added, I am running the original version of Half-Life, not any "enhanced" version, such as Steam, or the better graphics version that comes with Blue Shift. And I don't even have Steam, or Half-Life 2, on my laptop, so if you're trying to get the Steam version of Half-Life to run, then please discount my last post (except for the Planet Half-Life bit), as I assume the enhanced versions are more demanding regarding system resources. In that case, perhaps you should consider using the original Half-Life instead?
