T23 Virus Killed Motherboard?

This morning I downloaded an infected file and my T23 stopped working right afterwards.

The symptoms are those of a failed motherboard, but I can't understand how a virus could blow a board.

I started cleaning with Spybot S*D right after I realized I had a virus. Then I ran Lavasoft AdAware and then the computer froze. Now it won't boot, either to a hard drive or a floppy. The screen remains blank and the fan pulses.

Before it completely froze, it would boot partway and then display a message that the msvcp71.dll was missing.

Does anyone have any suggestions -- (short of buying a new motherboard)?

Can you get inot the Easy Config utility by pressing F1 at startup?

Hi, thanks for asking. The computer doesn't appear to resond to any keys at any point in the startup procedure. I've tried all the function keys, ctrl, alt, and all the various break and screenprint keys. Nothing happens.

Also, it won't recognize a floppy or alternative boot source. It doesn't seem to get that far in the startup.

The screen remains blank and the fan pulses.

I tried removing and replacing all power, including the CMOS battery, but nothing changed.

I can understand having a motherboard die -- this one was second hand. But at the same moment as a virus attack? The only interpretation that makes sense to me is that somehow the virus attacked the BIOS. Is this likely? And if so, how can I repair it?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Virus prob wiped the EEPROM, without that, the laptop wont do anything.
