Port Replicator or Dock

#1 Post by pcrob » Thu Dec 29, 2005 1:24 am

I just got a used T22 with 900mhz, 256mb ram,20gb hard drive, cd-rw/dvd combo drive and ordered a new replacement battery. The T22 I got came with the Port Replicator, and 2 power supplies.

Is a Port Replicator, or Dock (model 2631) better for using at home as a compact desktop system?? Can you use the T22 on either, type dock without hooking the power supply ( just using the laptop battery pack)?

The T22 can be used on either base, but I would recommend the Dock (2621) over the Port Replicator, as the Dock as the ability to add UltraBay 2000 drives, as well as half height PCI cards. It also has additional PCMCIA slots and other useful ports. The Port Replicator only provides a bare minimum of ports.

AFAIK, you will need to have a power supply attached to the Port Replicator or the Dock to be able to use them. I am pretty sure that they can't be run off of the T22's battery, because they need their own power source. I would also think that if they were able to use your T22's battery, it would eat your battery up, as there are many more resources.
