T21 Hard drive cover

#1 Post by db1 » Thu Dec 29, 2005 12:38 pm

Can anyone tell me the part number, or source, for the tin tray that is screwed to the hard drive and covers the electronics? It does not appear to be in the parts list or the exploded view in the manual. I have a couple of drives that I swap to change OS and its a pain transfering the tray.

Or is it a hard drive part?

TIA

The cover you need is FRU# 04P3496; it lists for $15.50, and is in-stock as of today. You can likely find it on eBay for less. You can find the rest of your service parts in the matrix here: HERE

BTW, I found this info by entering ibm.com in my browser's address bar then clicking on "Downloads and Drivers" under "Get Support," then selected your system. Piece-o-cake; anyone can do it.

No I don't think so. That is the external plastic cover in all the pics I have seen - or does someone definately know it includes the tin tray?

If you are trying to find the "tin tray" on eBay or elsewhere, it is called a Hard Drive Caddy. Using these words might help you in your search. You might want to check eBay exclusively for European listings, to save on the shipping costs.

Note: The reason LtTPfan gave you the other link, is because your Thread Subject says Hard Drive "Cover", not Caddy.

Thanks for the explanation. To my mind a "caddy" is like you had for CD players a few years ago. Not something you bolt onto the device :-)
