Which is lightest T-Series Thinkpad?

#1 Post by silo » Sun Jan 01, 2006 6:19 am

I have T23 and T30 (it's heavier) but I was wondering which T-Series is lightest? Presumably the T4x with the chg in drive etc? So, which is lightest after that?

I have only owned a T23 and saome version of a 770 model. I have found the T23 to be the lightest laptop I have ever owned. This inludes the second closest machine in terms of weight, my Compaq Armada 4131T. That was a sweet mahcine. I have owned Toshibas, Dells, Compaq (Armada line only) and Powerbooks. The T23 is the lightest of them all.

Two files. And it's not nice to taunt the mods this early in the morning...

From Item #1 in the FAQ:

You'll be happy to know that I have the tawbook and the results are, in lbs. --

t20 5 - 5.3
t21 5.2 - 5.5
t22 5.2 - 5.6
t23 5.05 - 5.9
t30 5.3 - 5.67
t40 4.9
t41 4.9 - 5.0

which seems to me very odd, as my T30 (with the 1400x900 screen or whatever that is) is clearly a lot heavier than my T23 models. But the T30 may be the 5.67 lb unit whereas my T23s may be the 5.2 units.

I was under the impression there was a new design that was significantly lighter. Does not seem to be so up to the T42, and I looked on the Lnovo site which says the T43's start at 4.5 lbs, but most of the ones they have listed are 4.7-4.9 lbs. up to 5.2.

So what is the point of the new model with the slower drive etc?

Those weights must be without a drive in the bay, or a battery as the TABOOK shows the T43 to start at 5.1# for a 14.1", up to 6.3# for a 15" (UXGA with a 9-cell battery). The T42s range from 4.9# to 6.2#. There sure doesn't seem to be any significant difference in weight between similarly optioned models.

I was looking at the TAWBOOK and the weights were, I believe, with battery & drive, cause I think that's the way they give 'em, but of course I could be wrong, confused, slow-witted, etc. I was surprised, however, at the narrowness of the weight gap.

The T42 and T43 are found in the TABOOK not the TAWBOOK so I assumed those weights came from product overview pages on Lenovo's site.

In all probability I got confused. It's not unusual.

The new T60 is the lightest. I just checked the spec.
