battery drained - now won't start

#1 Post by mello_joy » Mon Jan 16, 2006 5:06 pm

I drained the battery (at least that was what I meant to do - I left it on until it "beeped" off) and about an hour later plugged it back in to recharge. After a couple of hours I went to turn it on and "nothing". The battery icon light is yellow. If I unplug it and then plug it back in, it stays green for about 5 seconds then turns back to yellow.

Please don't tell me I have "killed" it!

Try removing the battery and disconnecting the AC adapter then pressing the power button 10 times. On the 10th time, hold it down for 5 to 10 seconds. This should drain the capacitors. Also, you can try booting with just the AC adapter or just the battery. If you battery is bad it could be drawing too much power from the adapter and not have enough power to boot.

Thank you so much - your instructions worked like a charm. I have already printed them out and will keep them.

i don't think that draining the battery caused the problem. the thinkpads have a quite sophisticated battery management with an "intelligent" battery. it has its own microprocessor. so usually the power circuit should know "when it is enough" for both charge and discharge.

but sometimes this tiny microprocessors are a little bit too clever. they mess things up, and then they need a reset.

i guess it was just bad luck.
