Bluetooth and wireless on my T30

#1 Post by cpustlauk » Mon Jan 16, 2006 5:15 pm

I would like to upgrade the mini-PCI card in my T30 to have 802.11g support. Curently I only got a MINI PCI card 802.11b with modem.

Another thing is that I bought a CDC card Bluetooth and modem, but the thinkpad does not recognise the card and the FN F5 switch does not work, although I took out the wireless minipci to avoid conflicts with both modems. The modem on the BT card is recognised, BT is not.

I think the model of the card is BMDC200 91P7315.

Are there any other options for a mini-PCI card to add 802.11g?
Thanks for your help

Have you updated your IBM drivers and sofware, especially the BIOS, Embedded Controller Program, and Access Connections? That my cure some of your problems. As for upgrading to 802.11g, you can buy an expensive "IBM" card or just get the card of your choice and use the no1802 fix. It works great and is completely reversible (just pull your CMOS battery). I used it on my T30. You can find a link to it on this page. There is also info in that thread on how to fix you. Fn/F5 problem.

Again to continue with my problem:

The fact is that the Thinkpad does not recognise the Bluetooth CDC card.
I believe that the FN+F5 switch does not influence that. As far as I understand it only switches Bluetooth on/off , right ?

I also lack the bluetooth on/off button, some Thinkpads T30 have.

My question now:

a) is the recognition of the Bluetooth CDC card related to the FN+F5 funtion or the missing switch ?

b) I heard that there are COMBO MINI-PCI cards which include both Bluetooth and 802.11 funtionality. With the thinkpad patch, could I use them ?

By the way thanks for your help LtTPfan. I finallt changed the serial number in the bios back to normal.

By the way I forgot to say. I ran all BIOS , embedded... etc updates on my machine, so that should not be the problem

Hi! The T30 does not have the Fn+F5 capability. Wireless can only be turned off through the operating system and bluetooth with the switch below the display. If you don't have the switch, it might not be possible to activate the card at all. Someone please verify this.
I have heard though that you can mod the T30 to include the LED and switch. Might be expensive.

I recently installed a BDC01 and it works fine in my T30. I have the button, though. Also, make sure you have an antenna connected, I still have to add one to mine.

Ok, thanks so far, but the question is:

a) is it possible to activate the BDC02 cdc card without this bluetooth button, someone please help.

b) and secondly, what about these COMBO WIFI/BLUETOOTH Mini-PCI cards, which are suposed to be available. Do they work with this famous BIOS patch

I really need to get bluetooth working, but I do not want to use a dongle, nor occupy my PC Card slot

Thanks for you help guys.

Take care.

Looking through the models in the TAWBOOK and the System Service Parts on IBM's site doesn't show any IBM models equipped with a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo Mini-PCI card. Perhaps some were built for other brands, or generic. Did you uninstall your original modem driver before installing the Bluetooth and the driver for it?

The combo card is Wi-Fi+Modem.

Someone can answer on this please ?

By the way when I talked about the Combo Mini-PCI, I talked about a card I saw on the net, which includes BLUETOOTH and WIFI. Any ideas ?

Can you provide a link? Was it a store or some eBay seller? The "expert" I bought my T30 from told me mine was equipped with Bluetooth. Well, it has the button but no modem or antenna.

The odds are good the bluetooth on such a card will work since you are not using the proprietary IBM slot that usually takes the modem and bluetooth daughter cards. I'll post a guide on how to add an antenna as soon as mine gets in.

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_sp ... &class=com

here is the link for a combo card.

In any case :

a) Do I have to add a bluetooth button to use the CDC Bluetooth module to my T30 and is this possible ?

b) I looked through the hardware manual and apparently there is a different kind of inverter which includes the button ?

Please help

I don't think you will need the button. With the card you describe, it should be possible, since it doesn't use the port/slot the original Modem/Bluetooth cards go in. You will only be able to disable bluetooth through software, though.

Correct. You should be ablte to buy it on eBay. You need a different display cover though, too, or you cut it up yourself :)

Guys, thanks for the help so far, but the basic questions remain:

a) Can I add an inverter board with Bluetooth button to get my BDC02 bluetooth module to work ?

b) Is there a way to get the module recognised on my T30 2366-R7G without this new inverter board?

Am I right when I say that although bluetooth is switched on or off, the system should still recognise the BLuetooth module as a device?

Thanks in advance for your help. I need to get clarification on this before investing in a new inverter board.(By the way there are tons of different inverter boards for the T30)!!
