WIFI built in

#1 Post by larrylwill » Mon Jan 23, 2006 12:07 am

I just bought a T30 with 1.2gb Pent III cpu, 128mb ram, cd/dvd drive, installed modem and 30gb HD. I had a 256mb 100mhz ram chip which I installed and now have 384mb. I am using a pcmcia wifi card. I would like to remove the modem and install a wifi card internal. I saw where someone added an intel 2915bg card. I have found 2200bg cards for $30 and am wondering if I can use that. How can I find out what upgrades I can install?
1. Fastest CPU
2. CD/DVD burner?

I love this laptop. I got it for $320 off ebay a corporate return.

Thank you

I have a 2200bg in my T30--paid $10 shipped off eBay. You'll have to use the no1802 fix to use anything but the two 802.11b cards IBM supports in the T30.

The fastest CPU is the P4-M 2.6 GHz, which run about $300 on eBay, 2.4s are about 1/2 that. You can also run Mobile Intel Celerons in it. You can get new 2.4s for $75 shipped. I didn't know if they would work for certain so I bought a 2.2 off eBay for $20. Well, it worked. Battery life will be less but my old battery will still last for 2.5 hours while wirelessly surfing and copying files, etc. I'm not sure how much longer it would last with a P4-M, not that much longer I believe.

I also upgraded to a DVD-RW. I got a new NEC-6500a off eBay for $41. The 6550a will also fit. Both require some minor mods and using your existing frame rails. Search this forum for instructions.

I also upgraded to an 80gig 5400 rpm hard drive. It made a substantial boost in performance. Cost for the new drive was $61. upping ram to 768mb by adding in a 512mb DIMM also made a big difference. Price was $42.

BTW, I love mine too, especially after the upgrades.
