T30: CPU temperature question
T30: CPU temperature question
Hello,
I have a 2366-R7G T30 with 2,0 GHz Pentium 4 M and I'm not sure whether I don't have anoverheating problem.
When the machine is completely idle and I'm using an ondemand CPU frequency governor (i.e. the CPU is running at 1,2 GHz), the reporetd CPU temperature is around 45 - 50 °C. The fan practically never stops and is still running at a pretty high speed of ~ 4000 rpm or more.
If I put some heavy load on the machine on the load, after just a couple of minutes, the temperature of the CPU rises up to 88 °C! The fan is frantically running at 4700 rpm. I have the impression that at this point, CPU starts inserting some idle cycles itself as the machine becomes a lot less responsive (compared to the same load a minute or two earlier).
I'm not sure whether this is normal or not, but I don't like it all. My warranty will expire in a month or two, so, please, fellow T30 owners, is this normal?
Thanks a lot for advice.

I'm running mainly Linux, so the temperature readings are from the generic ACPI thermal module (/proc/acpi/thermal_zone/) and ibm-acpi module (/proc/acpi/ibm/thermal), but I'm pretty sure any temperature monitoring utility for any OS would give me the same results.
But thanks for your notes. I will probably contact the local service anyway as I really don't like this at all...
