I would agree with you. My T23 is one of the absolute best laptops I have ever owned. Tying in a race with my Powerbook G3.

What I really love about the T23 is how they crammed everything into a nice thin, yet durable shell. Somehow they also managed to make it the lightest laptop I have ever used. Before that it was a Compaq Armada 4131T. That was a great machine too.

I have to be the dissenter here. I'm typing this on a 600X because my T20 keeps freezing. A friend and I both had our eeproms fail for no apparent reason. I've had to replace several plastic parts because they got cracked, while the 600X has been dropped on to concrete with no problems. IIRC, the 600* shell is rubber-coated carbon fiber. In any case, it's much better stuff than what the T2x is made from. The 600X also has a much better keyboard feel. In spite of all that, the T2x is probably the best laptop in its class.

Zak,

I think you got a bum unit. My t23 is perfect. I have had several family members and close friends purchase T2x series based on their use of mine. None of them have had any problems. Heck my Uncle is selling his other laptop. Some Toshiba Qosmo thing. It has a high bling factor, great hardware and crappy design. It feels like paper. That and it's batteyr life is like 1:45 or so, with optimizations.

I myself am very satisfied with my machine. I purchased it blind on e-bay. Come to find out that the T23 is one of IT's most repescted laptops. More companies seem to be coming back to IBM laptops. Maybe it has something to do with replacing the Dell's every year.

ThinkPad Quality

#35 Post by schen » Sun Mar 12, 2006 2:35 pm

I can't speak for the Lenovo TPs (since I've been out of the IT purchasing game for about 2yrs), but as someone who has been responsible for IT purchasing and maintenance; I can say unequivically that nothing maintains buying loyalty like quality! I bought TPs at 3 different institutions mainly due to that reason and the last was at a heavy Dell entrenched university in Texas!

Sure, all manufacturers have bad units, but the IBM ThinkPad track-record over time has been outstanding.
Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505

Just bought a T22

#36 Post by nrphotos » Mon Apr 03, 2006 9:03 pm

Hi newbie here. I got a T22 from tigerdirect $399 w/ a 4 flex pay option which fit my tiny budget perfectly... I have ADD and find my best way to learn is to do. I've scanned all the help sites & forums I could find and landed here as a member. My power source is a BIG source of frustration for me. At times the unit wont power on even though I know the battery is fully charged. This forum had me reseat the CMOS batt and so far so good. tomorrow, alas, is another day... I have a usb 120G HDD enclosure for my Compaq PC and hope to use it for the TP as well. The unit came with a dvd drive which is handy for me only cos I installed a dvd burner on the pc. I am trying to find ethernet based networking info to get rid of this darned dial up. Dial up + 900 MHz processor = growing old quickly! Happy trails folks!
~ thanks, nancy

nancy, there is MPCI card designed for the T20-22 (23 is different, uses CDC for RJ45) that controls both the modem and ethernet port. Is there an enthernet port on the back of your machine or is it completly abset? if its there, there should be a cable in the MPCI area that will allow connection of the ethernet port to the said MPCI card, which you can find on ebay.

thanks for the ethernet 411. T22 vs T23

yeah lithium, there is an unopened ethernet port. Today I went back to the TigerDirect ad I ordered from and see the specs say integrated modem and lan. When I called to ask Tiger why there was no integrated lan he said the prototype they were shipped had to have had both integrated for them to have listed it as such. I am not happy having to tie up a port with the free included lan card.
see my post http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=22956. Comparing the 22 & 23 Tiger will change my return up to a T23. I like the add'l memory capability, the bigger graphics card, 2 usb ports & ethernet; no OS installed $429. I have a wired network at home. will need a wireless card for the road but can get that later as well as the add'l memory. it comes with 2) 128 megs ram & 20G HD.
I still cannot get my TP to power up GRRRRRRRRRRRR. I'd like to dump my harddrive before shipping it back!
Just for giggles read this article from 2001 about the T23! http://www.businessweek.com/technology/ ... 9_5383.htm $3367 whoa!!
Thanks for the opportunity to post. Next time I hope to have a good report on the T23!
Ciao! nancy

I've had Toshiba and Dell, but there's just something about my T23.... The only thing I'd rather have is a higher numbered Txx!
560, 560x, T23, T61
