T23 won't boot into BIOS

#1 Post by qtech2020 » Wed Feb 08, 2006 4:20 am

I have a T23 that won't boot into Bios or anything. Power light is on and battery is being charge. CPU Fans seems to fluctuate high and low. Hard drive is getting power. Screen is on but in a dark (black) state. Any clues?

Thanks.

Modem? Try booting without it.

I am having the EXACT same problem, with a T23. Including the pulsating noise from the fan. I just replaced the CMOS battery hoping that that was the problem, but it apparently wasn't. I will try removing the modem too.

Ok, I have removed everything including the modem. Still no boot, any other suggestions for qtech2020 or myself?

What exactly do you mean by that? Is the backlight on but there is nothing to display, or is the backlight off? If you look at the screen under a strong light can you see activity, Windows, etc.?

I have tried all the above suggestion with no joy. I was up until 3 am pacific time and gave up.

To answer the question of dark screen. You can see that the backlight is on, but nothing is display on the screen.

This morning i gave it another go. Here is a twist. Place everything back (modem, nic, ram, and hdd) reboot and got it to go to bios, loaded a latest bios 1.18 and embedded controller 1.06 and rebooted. Thinking this might fixt everything. When it loaded fine, I was joyful, then went to pick it up. It crap on me and back to the same old thing. Now back to square one. How's that for a teaser.

BetaBill, I used a known good ram from another T23 and got same result.

No beeps or anything, which I was hoping the bios might tell me.

Sounds like a system board to me. Especially the part where it ran until you picked it up.

Looks like an SOL deal. Any chance of saving this or replacing it. I have parts from other T23. Any suggestions? Thx

The system board is replaceable. Get the Hardware Maintenance Manual and tear it down.
