T22 -- 1 gig RAM?
T22 -- 1 gig RAM?
Has anyone tried it? I don't want to spend 60-70 bucks apiece on 512 MB sticks if it won't work.

Unfortunately, T22 only support maximum up to 512MB PC100 only. Why not upgrading the hard drive instead?jimduchek wrote:Has anyone tried it? I don't want to spend 60-70 bucks apiece on 512 MB sticks if it won't work.

I guess I stand corrected...I just searched eBay and may have found some 512mb sticks of PC100 that appear to be low density as they have 16 chips: click here
@jimduchek: If you are willing to spend the $200+ to find out, I am sure that there are MANY people that would be interested. I know that I wouldn't spend that much to find out.

Well I just opened her up, and it looks like one DIMM is 256MB, so I'd need another 256MB to replace the 128MB, right? Your post above looks like I'd end up with 1GB if I had two 512's in there.tfflivemb2 wrote:@rmcnelly:

One a side note: I grew up across the water from you, in Norfolk....I sure do miss it down there.

Sorry, I just caught that I typed two 512mb sticks, I meant 2 256mb sticks. I got caught up in typing on the other topic of trying to get to 1GB. I seriously doubt that you can get to 1GB. To get to the 512mb max, yes you would need to replace the one 128mb with another 256mb stick. Just remember that they HAVE to be Low Density PC100, meaning that they have 16 chips, 8 on each side.tfflivemb2 wrote:@rmcnelly:

Will this work to replace the 128MB DIMM and bring me up to 512MB total? Is it the right type?

I've seen it on ebay for around $60-70 a stick (yes, low density if the pictures are to be believed, anyway). It's not a big deal spending the cash to 'find out' -- I can always re-sell them if it doesn't work, if I got a decent price anyway, and then I'm only out a few bucks and some time. If it does work, I'll probably get some piece of it back by selling off the 256M sticks I have..
I guess I'll be the guinea pig, if nobody's tried it. Would really like a gig.
[EDIT] Just bought a single stick of low density PC133. Will let you all know how it goes when I get it.

That is correct. 128mb PC133 might work, as I had two difference 128mb PC133 sticks work in a TP600E, even though they weren't supposed to. However, when you get up into the 256mb sticks, they need to be PC100 Low Density ram. It has 128Mb in there now - are you saying that PC133 256Mb modules WILL NOT work?
That makes it harder to upgrade.

Wait a minute, for 512MB PC100 to be low density, shouldn't there be a total of 32 chips? Confused.tfflivemb2 wrote:I guess I stand corrected...I just searched eBay and may have found some 512mb sticks of PC100 that appear to be low density as they have 16 chips:

I hate to resurrect such an old thread, but did the OP ever purchase and try?

Drat. And here I was hoping for good results.synchromesh wrote:I had a couple of 512MB PC133 16 chip sticks once. Tried them in a T20 system, I think the system only saw them as 256MB each or something like that because later on I've sold them off on this forum.
I suppose that if the BIOS only recognizes 2x256 then that is all that will ever be used? No chance of the "phantom" memory usage?

It looks like it is possible to use 4 256MB modules with the Intel 440BX chipset given the following:
http://www.intel.com/design/support/faq ... /440bx.htm
Of course that means you would have to add two more sockets to the T21 motherboard and maybe update the BIOS.
