Ooooh... good find.

In the Specification Update PDF I found this little nugget:

“…128-Mbit SDRAM technology is supported as stated in paragraph 4.3 of page 4-14 of this
document. As a result, 8 Mbytes to 1 Gbyte of memory is available depending on system
implementation.”

Could there be hope?

Yes, but only if the motherboard supports four memory sockets (1GB total; four 256MB modules). As that would be impossible to put into a T21, I afraid that 512MB is going to be the max.

Hello,

I've heard about 512 MB modules, double height / double sided.

Could this be a solution ?

Not in a T2x system. There's just enough room for the standard 1.25" high modules to fit. Any taller and you couldn't get them inside the memory bay.

But other than this physical constraint, do you think the T22 can see all 512MB of such a module?

Nothing a little physical modification couldn't fix.

Just GIVE me a reason to create some crazy mod! :D

Speculation on my part would say "probably not". There would have to be the proper addressing support already built into the existing socket wiring. The chipset also would have to be able to deal with having only two banks of 512MB memory and the BIOS may or may not need adjustment.

Which is not to say that I wouldn't mind being proved wrong. Shankrabbit, is that enough incentive? :).

Realistically, the mod may be interesting but I don't know how practical it would be. To me, buying a T23 is easier in order to get to 1GB.

edit: A little poking around turned up this:

Apple 512MB PC100 high profile module

It seems like there's a high profile module meant for Apple systems which appear to be using "high-density" ICs (only 16 parts on a 512MB module; you'd need 32 for a "low-density" 512MB module in a T22). I don't think anyone made such a beast.

You've said it, Ray... (and basically when Ray says something - that's the final)... :)
Other than that, T20-T22 are very memory sensitive - only low density PC100 SDRAM memory will fit. I doubt that they could be equipped with something so exotic as low density 512MB PC100s...
