T23 fan loud as $%^#@

#1 Post by Nolonemo » Sun Mar 05, 2006 1:43 pm

I have a "new" T23. The fan is usually pretty quiet, but at times (especially when used on my lap, and presumably when the machine is really under load) it seems to kick into overdrive and makes an incredible racket. It almost sounds like the blades are hitting something. I took a look at the fan and heatsink assembly, and didn't see or feel anything unusual.

I'm assuming this amount of noise is not typical of the machine. Has anyone else run into this?

Thanks

The fans wear out after a couple of years. You can get replacements on eBay for about 20 bucks.

IBM TP T22 (900/512/40/DVD/CDRW/14")

I've done that, crossing my fingers it's not worn out too.

Yeah, it sounds like the bearings in the fan have gone bad. You should be ok with a replacement.
