T21 Screen Problem

#1 Post by dave111 » Wed Mar 22, 2006 7:32 am

I have a T21 with a screen that has stopped working.
Also the battery doesnot hold the charge for more than a few minutes.
The laptop works fine connected to power supply and using external monitor.

I want to replace the lcd cable.
ebay link: http://snipurl.com/nz11

Do you think this will work?
I have access to another t21 for parts so just need a guide to opening up the T21 and swapping over the parts.

thank you.

When you turn on your machine, is the display still working and just no backlight? if so, then you just have to replace the driver card at the base of the LCD, this is the high voltage card that drives the backlight. The LCD cable rarely goes bad, and if it is not seated, you will get a dim glow on the display but nothing shows up. You can try reseating the cable. To get to the cable, you need to remove either 2 or 3 screws to pop off the keyboard. Take the battery out and push the bottom of the keyboard out, just pull up and the keyboard will come off the connector in the center.

Try playing with the spare machine to test out the procedure. To get to the high voltage card, you will need to remove the 3 screws under the plastic covers at the base of the display, then remove the bezel (slowly work it out by pushing the sides in towards the center). The card is at the bottom with 2 connectors.
