73P4301 Mini-PCI for T30?

#1 Post by sgmidf » Mon Mar 27, 2006 7:21 am

I want to upgrade the Mini-PCI card in our T30 to allow WPA (I'm correct that there's no other way..right?) and was wondering if the ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter II 73P4301 will work in it, without having to apply the no1802 fix. I see 2 cards in the Mini-PCI slots.

Thanks,

Steve

yes. i have it working, but only with an eeprom modification done. this can be done via linux, but is only recommendable for experienced users. you could get a generic atheros card instead, they are available for around 10 dollars/euros on ebay.

no. to my knowledge, the t30 has only 3 wireless cards in its whitelist, none of which is a 54mbps adapter. applying the no-1802 is simple though, any specific reason why you don't want to apply it?

Thanks. I'll probably go ahead and do it. I have no problem hacking my own stuff successfully, but it's my wifes computer and there's a family tradition of my doing something to her's and all hades breaking loose!

We have to replace the MB on it (NOT my fault!) and when we get it back, I'll upgrade the card. It's annoying that there's other way to get WPA encryption, as that's all she needs.

its highly unlikely that youll cause any damage. even if, it can easily be undone with a simple cmos-reset. you get wpa encryption with a pcmcia card, but thats an imperfect solution considering the built in antennae in your t30. send me a pm when you have the card and ill walk you through the steps necessary.
