T23 replacement body/case?
T23 replacement body/case?
I have a T23 with cracks on the keyboard portion of the casing and would like to find a new top body/case? It doesn't affect anything, but I want to replace it before handing it down to my sister. Any ideas on where to get this part would be greatly appreciated and the level of difficulty in replacing it.

According to the Hardware Maintenance Manual, (page 153) the part number that you need is 46P2611, unless your system is model number xxK. If your system is model xxK, then the part number is 46P2612.
You can either search ebay or IBM/Lenovo's site for the replacement part number, or search ebay for "T23 Keyboard Bezel"

Be aware that if you go the eBay route (which should be a lot cheaper), the T23 keyboard bezels are different from the T20/21/22 bezels. Not all sellers make this distinction clear. I recently picked one up for around $25 shipped, but they frequently are listed in the $35 range, so be patient.

I agree, make sure the keyboard bezel will fit a T23. I bought a brand new one on E-bay a few weeks back for my T20 for 20 bucks, a great deal.Nolonemo wrote:Be aware that if you go the eBay route (which should be a lot cheaper), the T23 keyboard bezels are different from the T20/21/22 bezels. I have a T21 and my keyboard bezel cracked at the exact same place as vspec's. Is this a common problem among the T2x ThinkPads? I got a replacement from eBay, but I'm wondering if I can expect this replacement to crack in the future too. Also, what do you guys think about this guy's claim? Is he full of crap?
UltraBay Cover
I took my T21 apart (when replacing the bezel) but could not see how this Ultrabay cover had anything to do with the hinges. What tab is he refering to?

The metal piece in the upper corner of his picture, one of the hinge screws mounts in it. If that matal piece is broken off, it can weaken the keyboard bezel. (It doesn't really weaken the bezel, but that bracket will make the whole case stronger, by bracing the bezel.)
I've seen numerous of those metal pieces broken off, and they usually come with a cracked bezel, so he could be right.
This however, does nothing to address a similar issue on the left side.
The best thing to do, is to NEVER carry the lappy around by the front (wrist rest) area, with the lappy open.

Re: T23 replacement body/case?
It seems that u stuff in a non OEM optical drive into it. I think that might lead to the crack as well.vspec wrote:I have a T23 with cracks on the keyboard portion of the casing and would like to find a new top body/case? What kinda drive you're using now? Does it fit into the bay correctly?skou wrote:Since the thickness (height) of every drive I've seen is the same, does that really make a difference?
Yes, some are thinner, but none are thicker.

I've got 3 T21 rigs running currently, and a T23.
They ALL have IBM optical drives, though.
