T23 boards -- specific to XGA or SXGA?

#1 Post by Bgradid » Wed Apr 12, 2006 1:24 am

I was just curious, I know that T20/21/22 boards are specific to their screen resolution, but, is this true for T23's? Could I get a T23 and put a T21's SXGA screen on it?
Thank you

Hello Bgradid

Every T23 mobo will work with the SXGA+ ,
all guys say you need the SXGA+ Display cable ;
so i never tested it with an XGA cable.

Good to know I can salvage my T21 SXGA screen and parts and shove 'em into some kind of T23 :)

I'm hopefully going to test a similar theory if I get my hands on this T23 with a busted screen. I am going to see if I can get T20 display with a bad backlight to work in the T23. If it does, I am going to attempt the backlight replacement.

For the record, I was able to get the display from an i1400 to work in the T20. That saved me from having to replace the T20's backlight, at the time.

I have done the very same successfully following the death of my SXGA'd T21 (system board). Bought a 'base' T23 i.e no screen/keyboard/drives etc, Added those from the dead T21 including the SXGA screen. Popped in a 1.2Ghz CPU, treated it to 1Gb memory and a 100Gb hard drive and breathed a sigh of relief when it booted first time!!

Now I just need to find an actual use for this mother of all T23's :?
I have a terrible habit of collecting T2* series :lol:

Go for it!

I'm being offered a new SXGA panel that'll apparently fit in the T23, however is it possible to fit an SXGA screen in a XGA LCD cover / mounting on the T23? I noticed that they have different SKU's and am wondering if this is worth risking.

Just quickly Orevin, is the SXGA cable 30 pin as opposed to the 20 pin XGA cable? how does this plug in to the Savage card?

The exact same way the XGA cable does - same connector, less wires in the ribbon cable in the case of the XGA cable. all the SXGA cable does is make use of more wires for dual channel LVDS. Its the same on the T40 (and, afaik, every other thinkpad with an XGA/higher res option).
