T21 (2647-8AU) Hard Drive/Battery Upgrade

#1 Post by BillB » Thu Apr 13, 2006 7:22 pm

I have a 3 year old T21 (2747-8AU) running XP Pro. I plan on replacing
it with a Centrino Core Duo some time this year, but I'd like the prices
to COOL abit.

1. My battery is dead, so I have to replace that now . Does anyone have experience with these 3rd party 4400 MAh available on the NET? I think the IBM part is 3600 MAh.

2. Has anyone upgraded the stock 20GB 4200 RPM disk with one of those
Hitachi 60 or 80GB 7200 RPM Travelstar units sucessfully?

DO NOT get a generic battery, it will run out of power much more quickly than an IBM one. try and get a T30 battery, they are 4400mah and drop right into a T2x, or there is also a T2x series battery that is 4000mah. I believe those were standard in T23's, but im not 100% sure on that one.

those HDDs will work fine. I had a 60GB 7200RPM drive in my T23.

In case you didn't already know, your T23 can take a T30 battery as well, which is more powerful than a normal T23 battery.

T21 (2647-8AU) Hard Drive/Battery Upgrade

#5 Post by BillB » Fri Apr 14, 2006 11:09 am

Thanks for the tips, but my Thinkpad is a T21 (2647-8AU) not a T23,
so will the 7200 RPM drive still work?
Does anyone know the part # for the 4000 MAh battery (for T21) and will the T30 battery work in the T21?

the T30 battery will work, i can get you the 4k MAH FRU when i get home around 2pm CST, my T23 is at home

7k2 drive will work fine. Spindle speed is invisable to the BIOS, it just needs to support the size of the drive, which it does.

4k T2x FRU is 02k7026

the T30 battery is 4400mah, so that would be even better. [/img]

Where is the best place or places to buy one of these T30 batteries?
