Will a Presario 1700 lcd work in a T23?
Will a Presario 1700 lcd work in a T23?
I have a T23 with a busted lcd screen and have found locally a presario 1700. I pulled it apart and the lcd p/n is:LP141XB (A2C1). It looks to have the same connections as the t23 and it is an xga screen. What are the chances or risks involved in swapping this lcd into the t23? Thanks

No magic smoke shooting out?
Uh I didn't answer because I didn't know compatiblity... but I guess that means no.
But in terms of the noise I don't think anything on it can cause noise other than something burning up. If thats the case the invertor is at a minimum toasted.

OPEN HEART SURGERY!!
Alright so i'm sittin at home and i have this idea of taking the backlight from the one lcd and putting it in the other. I thought it would be pretty slick at the moment and fairly painless to do, boy was i wrong. I actually broke the backlight from the presario but that didn't matter anyways. It was glued in there and need some encouragement to come out. The t23 one came out without a hitch. So after some trimming, swearing, sweating, and about an hour i had completed the procedure. So as it stands right now i have a functioning lcd for my t23
. I am actually kind of proud of myself. Has anyone else ever tried this?

Pretty awesome that you managed to setup a competely different LCD to your Thinkpad; a testament to your skill, hard work, endurance, and Thinkpad Engineering Quality.

I am aware of that but i am not aware of what that can actually do to me or anything else it comes in contact with. I think i'll have to take a look on the net to see. thanks for reminding me though.awdark wrote:Uh FYI, im pretty sure that cold cathode tube is filled with mercury...

First of all, check out the MSDS Data Sheets for Mercury; second, wash the affected area as much as you can. Try to not let any residue build up on your skin.
Typical of Heavy Metal Poisoning, it attacks the CNS and endocrine systems...Don't worry, there shouldn't have been much exposure to begin with.

Well the lcd is still working today. I was kind of worried last night it was kind of making a high pitch noise and almost vibrating, but that seems to have now cleared up. It looks pretty good besides on the bottom right hand corner there is a slighty darker spot which i think is from the metal piece being bent becuase of glue. But no one answered on whether or not this has been done or tried before?
I salvaged the good backlight from a broken T21 screen and used it later in an Omnibook. The CCFLs are pretty much standard, just the length is different.

IBM TP A31 (1.8GHz/512MB/40GB/DVD-CDRW/15" SXGA)

The high pitched noise is back and it is coming from the inverter. It various in loudness and by pressing around the bottom of the lcd it can make it louder or quiter. I'm not sure if it made this noise before becuase i have never had it on long enough to listen. Does anyone know what is causing this? Oh and to the last post, the backlight from the broken lcd (original one) took only about 5 or 10 minutes to get out. Maybe ibm was not glueing theirs in to make them easier to work on?
EDIT: Okay It only makes the noise when the lcd isn't at its brightest setting. The noise stays the same turning the brightness down but when turning it up it doesn't sound very good at all.
