RAM Upgrade T23

#1 Post by stuarty » Sun Apr 23, 2006 10:35 am

I currently have a T23 with 512MB RAM. I'd like to upgrade to 1GB but I'm not sure if it would be best to add another 512MB chip or buy a faster 1GB chip.

I currently have the following installed:

1 x KINGSTON KTM-TP133/512

Any thoughts?

Thanks
IBM thinkpad X32

If you currently have 1 512mb stick versus two 256mb sticks, I would recommend using a second 512mb stick, as it would be much cheaper.

I don't think that there would be a real performance difference between 1 1gb stick and 2 512mb sticks.

The point's moot. The T23 doesn't support 1GB sticks.

Interesting, I thought that I read that it would hold one 1gb stick.

Quite simply, an 1GB PC133 SODIMM just does not exist.

I really need either more sleep or more caffeine. In my head I think I was confusing the T23 and the T30, yet I knew that the discussion was about the T23.

*going to sleep now*

Well, sleep is the better option it seems :)

And about memory in T23... what do you guys say about battery time when using 2x512MB sticks versus battery time on 512MB stick versus 1x128MB+1x256MB sticks? Any differences worth mentioning here?

I am not sure if there would be a power consumption difference, HOWEVER the one with the (2) 512mb sticks would handle processes better and more efficiently. A slower system would take longer to do what you need it to do, thus making your battery time to appear to be less.

Memory vs. Battery Life

I think the main differences will be due to applications and files that would be able to completely load into RAM. The power savings would be from less need for the HDD to seek data and tranfer it.
