ATA-6 7k100 Gb Drive

#1 Post by Kaka » Sun May 14, 2006 6:54 pm

Hi folks,

My T30-2366-61U has a 20 GB 4200 rpm Hitachi serial ATA-5 drive in it( 1C25N020ATCS04). I want to replace it with 80 GB 7200 rpm Hitachi SATA-6 drive. Is this gonna work?

Thanks

Kaka

No!

You can't use a SATA HD in that machine, but a 7K80 PATA HD will work just fine.

Is it possible to put a SATA drive in a T23 2647-4MG ?

If its not possible then could you recommend the biggest (and quickest) drive for my T23.

Ps Sorry to hijack your post

No, the SATA drive will not work in the T23, or any T2x/T30 Thinkpad.

Here is a link in the Marketplace for some 100gb and 120gb drives, from a recommended seller, and an EXCELLENT price! These specifically are 5400rpm drives. There are some 7200rpm drives, but I am not sure how large they will go, either 100gb or 120gb.

Thanks James,

Yes you are correct, I found out after spending yesterday afternoon browsing Hitachi website. So I assume a 7200 rpm 100 Gb 7k100 PATA /ATA-6 drive should work fine - right?

Thanks

You assume correctly, that's the exact HD I have in my T30.
