T21 Won't Boot At All

#1 Post by Mrbreeze » Mon May 22, 2006 7:15 am

Hi there!

We have a T21 and yesterday one of our pugs went for a walk across the keyboard. The laptop then died and all we get now is just the power light when we try to boot it. It's not stuck in any type of standby and he didn't switch the monitor, it won't boot at all. Any suggestions?

How hard is it to get another motherboard for these?

Thanks!

Remove everything from the laptop, i.e. memory, HD, optical drive, etc., etc.

Take off the keyboard and make sure the CPU is firmly seated in the mini-ZIF socket. (Renew the thermal paste between the fan and CPU while you're there.)

Reinstall the keyboard and memory. Now try to restart the unit into BIOS.

If succesful, shutdown and install the HD and reboot. Then shutdown and reinstall the optical drive, continuing to shutdown, reinstall one item at a time and reboot in order to determine if there might be a problem with any other connector, e.g. USB, PS2, etc.

If unsuccesful on the initial BOOT, you'll probably have to search for a new MB on eBay.
