Ultrabay Not Detected ???

#1 Post by cyanide959 » Tue May 23, 2006 11:09 pm

Hey guys, I replaced my keyboard bezel and ultrabay release latch and cover and now my T22 for some strange reason will not detect the ultrabay dvd drive nor a floppy when inserted. I went into the bios and even tried to boot with cdrom but it goes straight into windows and i also tried to reset bios to default but still nothing. it is getting power and i can hear the cd spinning but just not being recognized? any ideas on this one?

See if your ultrabay drives are going in all the way. Sounds like they aren't connecting with the contacts.

thats what i replaced because it would not release but ya it does go back all the way and clicks into place. When you are in XP, doesn't it make a sound when u release it and pull out the drive and then when u snap it back in, it makes that noise, kind of like a short "ding ding" or is that only with a pcmcia card, i forget but, its not making that ding sound at all within XP with the ultrabay, just the pcmcia card. I just noticed the light on the dvd drive is blinking on and off consistently too. I'm gonna fool around with it some more tonight. do u guys have any suggestions on what i should do when i take it apart again. am i missing a step when screwing in the ultrabay or something?

Yes, it is supposed to make the "Ding-ding" noise that you are talking about.

I would take it apart and make sure that everything is connected right. It sounds like you are getting power, atleast, but maybe not a solid connection.

There is a little switch on the I/O board. Make sure it is not broken and activated by the release latch. Here is a picture of what I'm talking about.

IBM TP T41p (1.7G/1GB/100GB-7k100/DVD-CDRW/SXGA+/BT)
IBM TP T22 (900/512/40/DVD/CDRW/14")
IBM TP A31 (1.8GHz/512MB/40GB/DVD-CDRW/15" SXGA)
