Polarity for DC car power adapter tip?

#1 Post by arfermole » Wed May 24, 2006 3:17 am

Hi all...

I have just bought a DC car power adapter for my T20. The tip that goes into the laptop can be set to negative or positive, does anyone know which it should be for a T20 thinkpad?

Many thanks....

The polarity should be embossed in a graphic on the case next to the power connector, but for the record it's center terminal +.

Wow, I never noticed that before, I just figured it was an icon for power. My T21 reads "-o+".

If you look at it closely you'll see a solid line going from the - sign to the outer ring and a line from the + sign going to the inner terminal.

I.e., center teminal +.

yeah its like that most of the time. reason is that if the outside is positive, any contact between the plug and any kind of metal can create a shortcut and will make the ac adapter burn.

thus, do not mess up polarity, it could harm your computer/car. you can verify you got it right with a volt meter.
