T21 TrackPoint - cursor moves by itself

#1 Post by iann070 » Thu Jun 01, 2006 6:25 am

The mouse cursor on my T21 seems to slowly move all by itself.
I suspect the TrackPoint is sticking as I have to push it in the opposite direction to stop the cursor from moving by itself.
(I really hate TrackPoints anyway and can't understand why IBM still use them, give me a TrackPad any day).

Is this a common problem?
Is it possible to pull the red rubber tip off the TrackPoint and maybe spray some electronic cleaning spray down into it?

Any sugestions.

It's not a "problem", it's the Trackpoint recalibrating itself and is common to almost all Thinkpads.

Don't fight it when it happens, just let it go and will stop by itself.

There's nothing to "clean" under the cap as the Trackpoint has no moving parts, it's a simple strain gauge.

good to know!!!

@iann070 ever tried to work seriously with a touchpad? forget it, a touchpad is much more slow than a trackpoint on working (photoshop f.e. but this appeares on all apps).

Using the trackpoint you have to learn a little bit but after a few times you are much more faster with it.

on my 600e, when the mouse decides its going to do its own thing, it moves diagonally up/left for about 5 seconds.

on my r40, it moves in the same direction, but only lasts about a second (thankfully)
