T30 Memory PC2100 or PC3200?

#1 Post by xbytes » Thu Jun 01, 2006 7:14 am

I want to upgrade my T30 memory to 1GB, and I wanted to know if putting in PC3200 DDR400MHz will bring it inline with the 400MHz FSB of the machine, or will the system default the memory back to DDR266? I would imagine a 1:1 FSB to DRAM would be a nice speed increase

Also has anybody ever overclocked a T30 CPU?

Cheers,

In computers, the tail can't wag the dog. Putting faster memory in one than what was originally specified will not increase the overall speed of the sytem as the memory will only run at the speed supported by the FSB, in this instance 266MHz.

Stick with PC2100 or PC2700 memory, there's tons of it around and it's relatively dirt cheap.

Good analogy :) any ideas on the overclock?

ATITool is quite good for tweaking the Radeon7500

Best "overclock" is installation of a 2.6GHz CPU, the fastest P4-M.

Follow that with maxing the memory at 2GB and a 7K60 or 7K100 HD and you'll have a real stormer on your hands.
