error 1802 with original wireless card

#1 Post by cenna81 » Thu Jun 08, 2006 5:07 pm

Hi. I've a tinkpad y30. Today when i booted the pc i've found this message. I've searched interned and found that this problem appears when is plugged a wireless card not listed in the bios...
But the problem is that i've the same wireless card shipped with the t30 (the cisco system card). How is it possible?
If i unplug the card, replug and power on the pc i can boot, but if i restart the operating system the error reappears, so i have to turn off the pc and redo the same thing.

Is there a solution or i've to hack the bios like if i've changed the card?
thanks in advance

You have several options here.

* Is the Bios the latest. You can update it anyway to see if it fixes it.
* Go ahead and replace the Cisco card with something faster and on the IBM "blessed" list to see if it goes away.
* Replace the Cisco with something like the Atheros SuperG cards to make it faster and apply the patch CD like I just did on my wife's A30.

Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505

strange thing, that.

try the following: reset the CMOS information by removing the cmos battery as is explained in the maintenance manual.

if that doesnt work, apply the no-1802-cmos-patch on your computer, as explained in the thinkwiki.

The bios is the latest. I prefer to not change the card because it does wat i need, for now
After furter test i've noticed that the thing appears randomly... I'll try to reset the cmos and see what appens.
Thanks to all! :)

no-1802 does not modify the card. it modifies the cmos (=computer) and can be easily undone by means of a cmos reset.

I've run the no-1802 utility, and solved the problem. But now a strande thing appens... sometimes when windows starts, it can't inizialize the card! :(
I have to shut down the t30, remove the card, then insert and power on the pc, and it will work.
I think that tha card has some troubles, that caused the 1802 error, and after i've pached the bios, i can see the problem in the card...

Any suggestion? or any suggestion on new mini pci wireless card to buy? thanks!
