Blue Screen Of Death the NOTHING!

#1 Post by cellarboy » Tue Jun 13, 2006 10:29 am

Was using my T21 yesterday and in the middle of nothing in paticular I got the dreaded BSOD and since then it won't boot up.

I press the power button and all the green lights flash for about a second then just the power light stays on but I get nothing on the screen and the other lights including the Hard Drive led no longer flash.

I can hear the fan working but that's all...

Any ideas????

Hi, welcome to the forum!!

Try removing the optical drive, the battery, the CMOS battery, ram, hard drive, etc. Then plug the power plug in and depress the power button 10 times, on the 10th time, hold it for about 10 seconds.

Then put the CMOS battery and 1 stick of ram back in. See if it will boot. If not, use the other stick or ram, or a know working stick of ram.

Then report back.

EDIT: Almost forgot, here is the Hardware Maintenance Manual, if you need to learn how to remove/replace any of the parts of your Thinkpad.

Yup! That seemed to do the trick... looks like I may have a faulty ram stick.

Thanks!

This same thing happened to me about a year ago. Is it normal for a RAM chip to just go out like that? Just all of a sudden after a long period of normal use?
