Problems installing XP

#1 Post by lamina » Thu Jun 15, 2006 6:29 pm

Hello all,

I am having a problem installing XP Home on my T23 2647-9KU. These are the symtoms I am having. XP will install on a partition. After the initial install Windows restarts, which is normal. Windows XP splash screen comes up and just before the setup can start, Windows says, "setup is restarting" and the computer hangs. I Fdisk' it. Ran Scrub 3 on it. Deleted all partitions, and yet Windows will not setup. This is a clean install with an OEM Windows XP Home disk. If anyone has run into this and can give me hand that would just be great.

Thanks again,

~Mike

I moved this to the appropriate forum for you.

Are you formatting the drive as an NTFS drive?

try removing the modem. unscrew door at bottom and take it out. then try an install. not sure if you can replace the modem afterward..

it worked for me on a t21

Try removing all your extra harware...The modem,as V stated, the battery, any PCMCIA cards...Could also be the RAM..If you have 2 sticks try removing one and then try loading XP...If you still have problems put that stick back in and remove the other stick...
1 T23 1.13 Mhz.SXGA+..512 RAM..Built in Wireless
1 T23 1.13 Mhz..256 RAM...
1 600e that now a 600x(500Mhz) with 256 RAM
1 600x(500 Mhz) with 327 Ram
1 600x upgraded to 600Mhz with 256 RAM

Format the Hd in FAT32, then run the XP installation.

XP will convert the drive to NTFS after the install finishes.

This solution worked for me as well, seems like older models have problems installing WXP on pre-formatted NTFS drives.

Or this could be Microsoft's fault, when they originally put Windows XP on the market, FAT32 was still the standard, wasn't it?

Thanks everyone for the advice. FAT32 did not work, either removing any of the drives, cards, etc... What I did was run scrub 3, flash bios, and it worked. I really don't know why that should have worked now since I did that before.

Thanks again everyone
