What were the symptoms of the typical broken T23 mobo?

#1 Post by awdark » Sat Jun 24, 2006 11:15 pm

A few months ago there was several posts on the T23 and the detaching coils from the motherboard near the CPU due to flexing. I have tried searching and couldn't find anything so I decided to post.

Currently under consideration is a T23 which powers up for a few seconds then turns off. Im thinking if its fixable then I will spend the money and get another thinkpad. Otherwise if its the no idea buy a new mobo type thing ill pass on it.

Seems like common problems are
Bad Caps
Detached coils
funky power solenoid.

Is there list of symptoms to look for in each of those cases?
I have a T20 mobo I can harvest from...

So lots of searching finds...
Overcharged capacitors,
flash on and off... doesn't really do anything.

Broken coil,
pulsing fans, other signs?

Broken solenoid,
part of the cmos battery thing.
No link... does this mean it just does nothing?

So does the symptom of powering up then shutting itself off sound like anything familiar? Perhaps this is an extension of the inductor coils being loose?
