Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums :)

Well, what Thinkpad did you buy? A fresh Thinkpad shouldn't have any viruses at all.

You can go to the Support & Downloads page of the IBM/Lenovo websiret and get the software installer; after that, let it run and update your system. That should get you back the state your were in before in terms of the deafult software as it gets you all but the R&R partition. If you want to get the R&R partition, you should call up IBM for the disk set. Once you have it, you need not re-install Windows XP if you get a system virus. Simply tell the partition to restore everything to factory contents, and it will start the process; much easier than re-formatting the HDD and re-installing a clean/basic copy of Windows XP. :)

Can you answer the previously asked question about what model Thinkpad you bought, so that we can help you a little more specifically?

I understand that this will download IBM Tools (i.e. not Windows Office). However, which link on this page downloads IBM Tools?

I would download Software Installer over using System Update.
