Help! - What part is this?

#1 Post by TarzanBoy » Sat Jul 01, 2006 7:00 pm

I am half-way through trying to replace my T22 motherboard... but i have hit a snag...
I can't remember where this thin metal part goes:

Can someone please tell me what it attaches to?

I *think* it might go on this piece somewhere, but I can't remember?

Thanks in advance

Figured it out. It is the FPC static discharge protector and goes under the part that plugs in the motherboard (and then the bracket in the diagram i posted goes over the plug part)

Mission accomplished. Thanks for the help. How in the world did you figure that out? That doesn't look like it would fit in there at all. It was working fine without it in there. But, I feelbetter now that all of the pieces are where they belong. Thanks again.

# of Screws Before = # of Screws after, correct?

Just checking. ;) :D

Yeah, I thought that you were supposed to have left over screws, so that you have spares for the next Thinkpad???

Actually, I am having problems putting the last screw in... the one that holds the hard drive.

For whatever reason, the screw just doesn't want to take... anyone had a similar problem?

To add to my woes, I lost that last screw so I shall have to search for a replacement.

You lost the hard drive screw?

If so, it might not be too big of a deal. I don't use several of mine, because I tend to remove the drives and test other hard drives.....makes things much easier.

If the laptop is not going to be ULTRA portable, you might be fine without it, since the hard drive cover/caddy slide snugly into place (unlike the 600 series). I don't tote my T21 around everyday. It might go with me to a hotel, but is just sits where ever I take it.

I haven't had that particular screw for years and have never had a problem. I do a fair amount of drive swaping too. I think only one of my three thinkpads has that screw installed. I wouldn't sweat it unless you travel extensively
