Hello All. Newbie here.

I have just got my hands on a SL5XU 1.1GHZ processor( I believed)..MY question to all you experts out there is that, will this processor fit in my T20 unit? Again is it worth my trouble? I know I have to change out a few things to get this task done..So anybody would shine a light on this suject, would be greatly appreciated..Thanks.

T20? Hmmm... I think you're limited to either a 800 or 900 in the small package for the T20. I took out an SL4JZ 700Mhz for the 800Mhz that went in.. I dont think there -is- anything over 900 mhz that will go into the T20.. Turn your SL5XU chip over, look at the pins.. are they completely across the face with no empty square in the middle? If so, you're ok.. If you have an empty area in the center, the chip you got wont fit..

T20/21 cpu is rectangular
...............xxx...............
....................................
....................................
xxx..........................xxx T20/21 CPU
xxx..........................xxx chip not square
.................................... xxx's are empty notches
....................................
...............xxx................

T22/23 CPU is square, with empty square in center
................................
................................
................................
.........xxxxxxx............. T22/T23 CPU
.........xxxxxxx............. (empty square in center)
.........xxxxxxx............. xx's are empty areas
................................
................................
................................

Hope you can get your money back..

TJ

No, because SL5XU is socket370, which is for desktop systems.
I know I have to change out a few things to get this task done
No, you don't have to change anything as long as the CPU fits into the socket. All you need to do is to obtain a micro-PGA package CPU.

If the CPU clock is very high, you need to change the heat sink to dissipate more heat. But this is a separate issue from the CPU compatibility.
T22/23 CPU is square, with empty square in center
This is incorrect. The CPU package is different between T22 and T23. T20/21/22 adopt micro-PGA package while T23 has FCPGA package.
